We have also been exploring how we can use Zumos to help us share our worries, celebrate what makes us happy and how to use breathing skills to keep us calm.

Year 3 Homework, by Miss Mulheirn

Date: 24th Sep 2020 @ 10:06am

Dear Parents/Carers,

We wanted to clarify a few things regarding the new homework system. All homework tasks will be set on Google Classroom. This enables children, parents and teachers to share comments about the tasks. We are aiming to minimise movement of belongings between home and school as much as possible. Therefore, both the spelling and maths books will stay at home. We will ask for these to be brought in once every half term and we will communicate this nearer the time.

We would like children to complete:

Maths - An activity from their maths homework book will be set weekly. The activity will be put on Google Classroom and ideas of how to extend and support will be on there too. Children can use their maths homework jotters to record, and we ask parents to initial and date the task once completed. There is also space at the back of the booklet for weekly comments. TTRockstars is available for the children to use at their leisure.

Reading - The children will bring home a reading book on a Friday and need to return it again on a Monday along with their yellow reading log. They record in their reading log what they have read - they do not need to log on to Accelerated Reader at home.

Spelling - The weekly spellings will be set on Spelling Shed. The children can practise their spellings on Spelling Shed, as well as choosing one activity from the spelling menu to complete in their orange books.

Any other apps or websites the children have access at school can be used as often as they choose.

We have sent step-by-step guides on how to use Google Classroom and Spelling Shed via email. The guide is also attached as a document at the bottom of this post. Please do let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for your continued support,

The Year 3 Team

Well done to fantastic fundraiser Thomas!, by Mrs Walters

Date: 23rd Sep 2020 @ 10:08am

Congratulations to our year 5 pupil Thomas who has raised an amazing £735 for the Little Princess Trust!

Thomas had been growing his hair for three years so he could donate it to the charity, which makes wigs for children with cancer.

His family and everyone at St George's is very proud of him! If you would like to donate you can still visit the Just Giving page at:

Year 4 Homework Expectations, by Miss Lewis

Date: 21st Sep 2020 @ 4:21pm

Year 4 Homework Expectations

Reading

Each Friday your child will bring their AR reading books and reading logs home. We would like them to bring these back on the Monday. Please encourage your child to read twice over the weekend.

Spelling

In Year 4 we will be setting your child’s homework on Spelling Shed. This will be available under ‘Assignments’. We have also sent home a spelling book for any spellings your child would like to do further work on. These assignments will be set each Friday and available until the Wednesday of the following week.

To log on to Spelling Shed you can either use the QR code on your child’s password sheet or follow this link:

https://www.edshed.com/en-gb

Maths

In maths we have sent home ‘Maths Homework Books’ alongside a jotter. We will post on google classroom weekly with the task we would like your child to complete. Your child can access this via their Google Classroom log on.

We are inviting the children to bring their maths jotters and spelling books in on the last week of term so we can celebrate the wonderful work they have completed at home.

Thank you,

The Year 4 Team

Here We Are - Whole School Book, by Mrs Horton

Date: 31st Aug 2020 @ 4:26pm

Whole School Text - Here We Are

As we return back to school, the teachers have been planning some exciting lessons. Years 1-6 are using 'Here We Are' by Oliver Jeffers as their first text of the year. We will use this book to encourage a sense of community and use it to help us to reflect on the past few months, and also help our whole school look forward to the future in a positive way. We have been very lucky to have a number of these books purchased for us from our Amazon wish list; however, we are still in need of a few more. If anyone would like to help to support our school book collection you can purchase a book from your year group wish list:

Pod 4 do maths, by Mrs Roberts

Date: 15th Jun 2020 @ 3:08pm

This afternoon, Pod 4 went outside to do some of our maths lesson. We used chalk on the playground to draw large venn diagrams before adding in the multiples of 4 and 6. We decided that both multiplication tables have some common factors. This helped us to solve some tricky questions about fractions when the whole is an unknown. We had great fun!

Summer Reading Challenge, by Mrs Horton

Date: 11th Jun 2020 @ 1:59pm

Every year, hundreds of children across Wirral sign up to complete the 'Summer Reading Challenge'. This year the challenge will continue but will be completely online. The theme this year is funny books, happiness and having a laugh. The children have the opportunity to join the 'Silly Squad', earn rewards, play games and collect badges. They can join for free by following this link: https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/

There is also a face book page called 'Summer Reading Challenge'. The challenge launched last week and there are lots of videos to get the children interested. https://www.facebook.com/SummerReadingChallengeUK/

This is a great opportunity to enagage and motivate children to read, for those at home or at school. If your child has joined the challenge, please share any achievements by sending a message in to their year group email.

Virtual Time Capsule, by Mrs Roberts

Date: 22nd May 2020 @ 9:44am

Over the last 8 weeks, we have been gathering photographs and videos to help us create a virtual time capsule. We feel that although this has been a very unusual time, it is something which will go down in history. As a school, we want to remember this so that ,in years to come, we can learn from it. Thank you again to all parents who sent photographs in of children working from home.

We think this really captures 'A day in the life of St. George's during Covid 19'.

St George's Spin Challenge, by Mr Knowles

Date: 14th May 2020 @ 1:54pm

NEWS FLASH!

The PE Team at School wanted to have a little bit of fun, set you a challenge and raise a bit of money for charity.

St George's Spin Challenge involves spinning 10 times and then completing a sporting activity such as shooting into a hoop or trying to hit a ball. After you have done your challenge we have suggested donating to the Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust by using our link as I am sure we can agree they are doing wonderful things. With a bit of help from some familiar faces we have put together a video with some of our efforts. See if you can recognise anyone!

Now, we want you to get involved at home and complete our spin challenge. This will also help raise some money if you can for some of our brilliant local NHS causes. Let's see how much we can raise and how creative you can be.

If you are want to take part, please make sure you are safe and with an adult as we don't want any injuries.

You can send in any videos for us to see to spinchallenge@stgeorges.wirral.sch.uk and you can donate by following the link to our justgiving page which is here https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/stgeorgesspinchallenge .

Good Luck!
