Road Safety Week , by Miss Gough-Hughes

Date: 25th Nov 2018 @ 10:56am

Road Safety Week

Throughout the week, children at St George’s have been recognising and celebrating road safety week. The focus of road safety week this year was bike safety and how children can stay safe on the roads, especially when riding their bikes. Each class has done some work around bike safety, understanding what is essential when riding bikes: wearing helmets, wearing sensible shoes, having a reflector on the bike, ensuring the bike is the right size etc. Children in foundation stage designed and coloured their own bike to celebrate road safety week. Children in years 1 and 2 investigated what materials would be best to make a bike helmet, discussing how a helmet is strong and sturdy to protect us on the road. Children in years 3 and 4 designed their own reflector which would be suitable to use when riding a bike. They also discussed the importance of reflectors when riding a bike. Children in years 5 and 6 designed and made their own moving vehicle, looking at how bikes move safely. To finish all of the fantastic work the children completed around road safety, we celebrated with a road safety breakfast. Children enjoyed a pastry and drink of juice before school. Well done to all children for participating and working so hard throughout the week. The children are all experts at road safety! Here are some pictures of our road safety breakfast:
