Nursery Admissions

Choosing the right school for your child and your family is an important and exciting time.  We recognise this at St George’s and pride ourselves on the various, extensive open events, and transition events that we plan throughout the year.  Due to unprecedented circumstances, we have amended our open day events in line with Covid-19 guidance and thank you in advance for your support and understanding. This event is planned for Saturday 7th November and is now a strictly bookings only event.  This will ensure that we can support our families in viewing the setting whilst adhering to social distancing and Covid-19 guidance.

We request that all attendees arrive on time and queue at the top of the car park by the green gates and wait to be collected - this will be signposted on the day.  Adults are asked to wear masks at all times unless seated.  Track and trace measures and hand sanitizers will be in place.  There will be a maximum of 6 adults and 6 children in each session.  There will be a short informative presentation about our school and the application process, followed by a guided tour and the opportunity to ask questions.  Each session will last for a maximum of 40 minutes in total so that additional hygiene measures can be implemented between groups.

As we are unable to offer impromptu guided tours, and stay and play events we have commissioned a virtual tour of the Early Years building; the link can be found below.

Since September 2017 we have expanded our popular nursery (Foundation 1) provision so that we can offer parents the government's target of 30 hours of nursery provision a week for eligible families, in the term after their child is 3.  All families can access 15 hours free nursery provision in the term after their child is 3 (more information below)

Our nursery is open from:

Morning Session 8.45am to 11.45am (amended due to staggered start and exit times  8.30am-11.45am)

Lunch is 11.45 - 12.30pm (lunch is £1 per day for families accessing the 30 hour a week offer)

Afternoon Session 12.30pm to 3.30pm (amended due to staggered start and exit times  12.30-3pm)

Sessions run for 38 weeks of the year, during term time only.

Families can either access the full day as part of the 30 hour offer if eligible or access the universal 15 hour offer .  If accessing universal 15 hours, sessions are all mornings or all afternoons.  In order to support families with siblings at St George's, timings of sessions have been organised to mirror the times of the school day.  If accessing the 30 hour offer this actually equates to 33 hours and 45 minutes per week free Foundation One provision and is supplemented by school at no additional cost to parents.  Note that lunch is £1  for families accessing the 30 hours provision.

When Can Children Start?

Children become eligible from the term after their third birthday and are admitted in September, January or April accordingly.

  • children born between 1 April and 31 August become eligible in September (Autumn Term)
  • children born between 1 September and 31 December become eligible in January (Spring Term)
  • children born between 1 January and 31 March become eligible in April (Summer Term)

The entitlement will last until your child is in full-time education.

How Do We Claim for Funding?

Families don't need to claim for the 15 hours funding.  This is a Universal offer.  We will simply register your child.  Families wanting to know more about the government's 30 hour offer and how to apply for funding should refer to the Wirral Council website.  or  If eligible you will recieve an individual code which you must provide to us.  Currently you must reapply every 3 months to confirm your ongoing eligibility.

How Are Admissions Managed?

We currently offer the equivalent of 52 full time places (or 104 15 hour places).  Admission are prioritised in the following order by age of eligibility per admission intake:

  1. Looked After Children are admitted as a priority
  2. Any children with siblings at the school are admitted as a priority.
  3. Children living in the school's catchment area.
  4. Children living nearest the school.

If we are over subscribed available places will be offered on this basis.

The deadline for places for the next academic year (September start) is 31st March.   Transition events begin Mid May.

'In Year' places for January and April start are offered on availability.
