Mini Police Visit Merseyside Police Mounted Department!

St George's Mini Police were invited to visit the Merseyside Police Horses in Liverpool!

We were lucky enough to meet 15 of the police horses and discover the different jobs a police horse can do. We also learned all about how police officers are recruited into this division and training they need to do. We took part in helping to train two horses - Diamond and Carter - by making noises to help them be calm when they are in crowds. Diamond and Carter were wonderfully calm and were not worried by our cheering and shouting!

We were shown all of the items a horse needs when it is out on patrol, including visors and protective gear. We were shown around the transit vehicles in which horses travel - this is how they travel when they come to New Brighton to patrol the prom!
We visited their stables and see what food they ate. We also had a go in their exercise pen!
The horses were SO friendly: they let us stroke them and say hello. We all had our favourite horses by the end of our visit, including Owen, Daisy, Odin and Amber.
