Eco Warriors Present at Mosslands!

Since mid-December, Eco Warriors in Year 4 and 5 have been working on an exciting project centred around creating a sustainable life on Earth - alongside Mark from 4ward Futures.

We worked hard to identify a problem in our world and how we can potentially solve it.  After lots of research, we decided to focus on the damaging effects of fast fashion, and how we can make our clothing options more sustainable.

Ardently, we began our plan of action. We attended various webinars with lots of scientists and inventors, and used this newfound knowledge as further inspiration for our project. We learned about the creation of clothing using orange peel, coffee grinds and even beetle shells! We created infographics, slides and posters to outline the identified problem, what our project entails and what we will do going forward.

We decided that St. George’s would prepare a fashion show using some of Year 5’s clothing items created in their repurposing topic in Design & Technology, and that this would take place in the Summer Term. Pupils and adults would also be given the opportunity to swap items of clean clothing at this event, as well as writing pledges to help make our planet a better place.

All of our research and work was presented by the children at The Mosslands School yesterday. Scientists joined via zoom, and a few brave members of the eco team eloquently discussed our project aims. We then had the opportunity to visit other presentations created by groups in Mosslands: a sustainable school build and the melon phone were firm favourites among St. George’s pupils!

We can’t thank 4ward Futures enough for this exciting CASLOE project. Watch this space for details of the fashion show in Summer!
