Football teams' fundraiser for damaged defibrillator, by Mrs Walters

Date: 19th Oct 2023 @ 12:49pm

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who donated to this fundraiser. The club has reached the £1,000 target and is now waiting to have the defib machine fitted.

A member of our staff team is raising funds to replace a vital defibrillator, which had the battery stolen, leaving it unusable.

John Evans, St George’s Finance and Office Manager, is a football coach with the Cheshire Girls Football League Wirral.

For the last five years they have had a defibrillator on hand and readily available for anyone to use at Arrowe Park playing fields, where it can be instantly accessed should the need arise.

They were absolutely horrified on Saturday 14th October to discover someone had stolen the battery pack that provides the power in case of emergency use.

The battery can only be accessed by removing the unit from its zipped up case and deliberately releasing it via a catch. The battery pack itself is of no use as it only fits the defibrillator but costs £280 to replace.

John said: “We are truly astonished at the depths someone has plunged to. The thought that someone has been so callous as to prevent the operation of life saving equipment goes beyond all understanding!!

The teams that use the playing fields are now raising funds to replace the defibrillator and add a special case to keep it safer.

Year 4 Art, by Miss Mulheirn

Date: 4th Jul 2023 @ 3:40pm

Today the children began their final pieces!

They worked brilliantly in pairs to create a repeating pattern in the style of William Morris using their incised printing tiles. Their communication and teamwork skills were excellent!

Here a few photographs of the children with their finished pieces of artwork so far...

Year 4 - Art, by Miss Mulheirn

Date: 3rd Jul 2023 @ 2:46pm

Today, the year 4 pupils began to create their final printing tile based on their favourite motif from a previous lesson. They had to concentrate very hard to ensure their final design was copied accurately. Once they had drawn out their motifs, they then used a pencil to incise the foam tile. We can't wait to print our motif next lesson to create a repeating pattern in the style of William Morris!

Year 4 - Art, by Miss Mulheirn

Date: 30th Jun 2023 @ 4:03pm

Year 4 have loved learning all about William Morris and the process of printing over the last few weeks. They began by researching William Morris to find out key facts. They then selected pieces of his artwork to study before recording their thoughts and observations in their sketchbooks.

In the next lesson, the children practised the skill of observational drawing using viewfinders to select areas of interest as well as images of William Morris' work and photographs of nature.

Their next step was to design a motif taking inspiration from Morris' designs. They will transfer their motif on to a printing block in upcoming lessons to create a repeating pattern.

This week, they reached the very exciting stage of practising the printing process! Here are lots of photos...

Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Wirral Coastal Walk on Sunday - and thank you to everyone who sponsored our staff team!

They walked the full 12.5 miles to raise money for our year 4 pupil Daisy Scamp's family. Great Glider Share, by Mrs Kisby

Date: 9th Jun 2023 @ 3:51pm

Today we celebrated the entries for year 3 and 4 for the Great Science Share. It has been fantastic to talk to all of the children and to share what materials they chose, why they chose these to use them as well as discussing their results. At playtime we launched all the gliders at the same time to see the results for ourselves. The children all talked about the factors that could impact on the flight of the gliders - the wind - and then we used this as a quick investigation by flying our gliders against the wind and with the wind. We concluded that the the wind helped the gliders fly further as it gave them and extra lift so they flew further. Well done to everyone that entered. We look forward to sharing these on the Great Science Share website on June 13th.
