Autumn Term

Welcome to Year 2

The teachers and teaching assistants in Year 2 are:

2A - Mrs Horton/Mrs Johnson and Mrs Evans

2B - Miss Shields and Mrs King

2C - Miss Wall and Miss Brown

2D Mrs Senior and Mrs Hewson

Year 2 will begin the year with an exciting topic called 'Into the Forest'. The key text for this topic will be 'Into the Forest' by Anthony Browne.

The children will be learning about traditional tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Hansel and Gretel. During the term they will go on to investigate the author Anthony Browne and read a number of his books. For this topic, the setting is also explored from a real world point of view as a habitat for various living things.

Year 2 WOW Day - Wednesday 3rd September

Year 2 children, and staff, have had a fun WOW day to begin the topic 'Into the Forest'. Everyone came into school dressed as an animal or a character that they would find in the forest. We went on a treasure hunt in the centenary garden and found all kinds of objects related to traditional stories. The outdoor classroom was used to examine the findings and practise some storytelling. Other fun activities included some drama relating to Little Red Riding Hood, creating our own gingerbread men and creating some fantastic collages based on the Anthony Browne book 'Into the Forest'. WOW it was a busy, busy day!

See some pictures of our fun below.

Year 2 Art - Into the Forest

We spent an afternoon creating art work for our classrooms displays. We used a number of painting and printing techniques to create different textured paper. Then we used the paper to collage some large forest animals. We also used paint and pastels to paint and draw some other animals and plants that you might find in the forest. Our classroom displays now look fabulous.

Football Tournament

On Wednesday 19th November St George's Key Stage One football team competed in a football tournament against six other Wallasey schools at the Soccer Dome in Seacombe.

After 6 matches, the tournament came down to a tense penalty shoot out.

I am delighted to announce that St. Georges won the tournament!

Congratulations to all involved!
