Writing at St George's

During January all of the teachers and teaching assistants had some high quality writing training from a literacy consultant, Jane Considine. Jane is the author of the book 'The Write Stuff' which supports children through the writing process.

We have started to implement her training through sentence stacking and the children have produced some fantastic writing...

Literacy at St George's

Through our thematic topics children are introduced to high quality texts which develop a love of reading from an early age. Our Literacy lessons are linked to our thematic topics wherever possible to make the lessons fun and engaging to our children.

In Foundation stage and Key Stage One Read Write Inc is used as a systematic programme for teaching phonics and reading. Children have a daily Read Write Inc lesson where they take part in discrete phonics teaching, shared reading, partner reading, sentence building activities and writing composition. As they move into year 2 many children move from the Read Write Inc programme and begin to take part in Literacy lessons that are planned by the teachers and linking to high quality texts.

More information about Read Write Inc can be found here:

All year groups develop a topic of work that is linked to a key text. The teachers read this text with the children during shared reading sessions. This reading then develops into a variety of writing opportunities. All children in KS2 have a daily Literacy lesson. They also have discrete grammar, spelling and reading lessons that follow the national Curriculum.

Looked at our fabulous sentence stacking and our independent writing in year 1 and 2.
