Our St George's News items

How often do you use Google? Everyday? ?

Do you use it as a search engine for research? ?

Do your adults use it to search for directions? ?

Do you see adverts online? ?

This afternoon, Year 3 and 4 were fortunate enough to think about our safety and privacy of our online content and how online platforms work.

We were joined by Tabitha all the way from New York who works at Google. She talked to us about her job about privacy online and advertising.
We learnt about the different careers at Google from advertising to data protection and were able to ask her a lot of questions. We asked questions about our online safety, how Google searches work as well as what subjects we needed to study at secondary school if we wanted a career at a company like Google.

We want to say a big thank you to Tab for joining us today.
Thank you!

6D Reading Recommendation, by Mrs Taylor

Date: 18th Jan 2023 @ 4:36pm

6D's reading ambassadors did a brilliant job of recommending one of our brand new texts last week. They were both tasked with reading 'When the Sky Falls' by Phil Earle over the Christmas holidays. Both boys loved it so much that they videoed a book review to be shared with the rest of top site. We think they did a fantastic job!
If any other children would like to do the same, we'd love to see more.

They have ensured their guide is helpful and interesting by using headings and subheadings, imperative verbs, fronted adverbials and rhetorical questions! If you need help finding a Gorgon and reversing her curse, read away!

We learn about lots of different religions and beliefs in our RE lessons at St George's. This half term, Year 4 are learning about the religion Buddhism.

Today, Year 4 were extremely grateful to be visited by Kadam Sue and Neil  from Kailash Buddhist Centre. We learnt about what it means to be a Buddhist and the way in which Buddhists live today.

Kadam Sue brought some items from a traditional Buddhist shrine and showed us the eight different offerings to Buddha. We got to see offering bowls, flowers, statues of Buddha Shakyamuni, incense and lights.

Neil told us the story of Buddha and we all practised a meditation together.

We can't wait to learn more about Buddhism this half term.

Year 4 talk detectives ??, by Miss Hughes

Date: 11th Jan 2023 @ 11:27am

Year 4 have been working on their Oracy skills and challenging each other's thinking using some of our STEM sentences. They have taken on different roles within a debate and had to carefully verbalise their views using evidence from our new text, 'The Firework Makers Daughter.' We learnt how important our listening skills were so that we could respond to others effectively.

Maybe you could  be talk detectives at home?

Would you prefer to be a builder? ?

Maybe you like to respectfully challenge peoples ideas? ??

It's always good to be clarifyer to make things clearer for everyone. ?

A prober may even ask you to provide evidence for your idea. ??

We can't wait to hear what you try!

Merry Christmas!

Topsite, by Miss M Jones

Date: 20th Dec 2022 @ 11:51am

WOW!

What an incredible, festive morning we have had here in Years 5 and 6. Mrs Dures diligently hosted the inaugural 'Topsite's Got Talent' 2022! All of the staff were completely blown away by the talent of all our contestants today! We were in fits of laughter at jokes and puppet shows; mesmerised by dancing; engrossed at singing; captivated by violin playing and simultaneous French singing; enthralled at acrostic poems;  AND enamoured with acting! We absolutely had it all this morning.

All of the children should be so proud of themselves because they put on an unbelievable show: performing in front of over 200 people with such confidence, we were in awe!

Well done to the whole of Year 5 and 6 for watching with such respect for their peers - they behaved, as ever, impeccably.

The winners of today were:

3rd - Nicholas
2nd - Mia, Lucy, Alice, Ava and Jess
1st - Ava

Have a wonderous, magical Christmas, Years 5 and 6. Stay safe and we will see you in the New Year.
Team Topsite x
