Year 4/5 Football Team Report, by Mr Knowles

Date: 28th Jun 2022 @ 5:01pm

Over the last two Mondays, some of our Year 5 children (and 1 year 4 child) have been able to play some friendly matches against Liscard Primary and New Brighton Primary School.

The boys played a tough match against New Brighton Primary first and drew the game 1-1.

In the second fixtures, 20 players were split into 2 teams to play against Liscard. Both of the teams managed to win their games, scoring plenty of excellent goals in the process.

While we are really proud of the boys footballing performance, we are more impressed with the sportsmanship, teamwork and conduct as part of the team. They represented St George's brilliantly and we look forward to more fixtures next year.

Year 3 visit Co-op, by Miss Bennett

Date: 24th Jun 2022 @ 2:05pm

For Year 3's current DT project, they have been asked to design and evaluate their own cereal box packaging. To do this, we took a visit to our local Co-op to explore and evaluate existing products so the children could create their own design criterias and eventually their own designs. Thank you to all of the lovely staff at the Co-op for allowing us into your shop, and giving us lots of information about your products.

Year 2 trip to New Brighton, by Miss Gough-Hughes

Date: 23rd Jun 2022 @ 1:24pm

Today, year two took a coach to visit New Brighton for half a day. The children had the chance to explore the buildings of present and past, taking photos on their iPads to capture this. We saw the Royal Pavilion, Marine Lake, Fort Perch Roch, the beach, the lightouse, Marine Point shops, the funfair etc. We also had the chance to go litter picking on the beach, collecting lots of rubbish. At the end of our trip, we had the chance to speak to the lifeguards who taught us how to keep safe at the beach. Whilst listening to the lifeguards, we had a cool ice lolly. Finally, we took a coach back to school and had a cool down. The children all had a great day!

Year 4, by Miss Mulheirn

Date: 22nd Jun 2022 @ 9:23am

Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed their visit from local poet and children's author Martyn Harvey.

He began with an assembly in which he performed 'The Boy with the Saucepan Hat'.

Martyn then held a workshop with each class and the children asked him lots of great questions. They learnt how Martyn gets his ideas from the world around him and how he both writes and illustrates his wonderful books and poems. They even got chance to see Martyn's prototypes and discussed the process of editing and redrafting. The children then performed one of Martyn's poems to the poet himself, and received lots of constructive feedback and advice. Martyn brought lots of his new book with him for the children to buy which he has also signed!

What a fantastic, creative day!

Science - Enthuse Celebration Event, by Miss Gough-Hughes

Date: 21st Jun 2022 @ 10:26pm

Over the last 18 months, St George's have been working closely with several cluster schools, undertaking an Enthuse partnership with STEM. We have been fortunate to gain this support to enhance our science curriculum within school, delivering engaging and exciting science lessons and collaborating with others to share knowledge. Our aim is to continue to raise the profile of STEM and support our children to see the opportunities available to them in the future.

As part of this partnership with STEM, we held an exciting celebration event at our school, whereby the schools came together to celebrate science. 10 children from each school (years 4-6) were chosen to be the representatives, completing activities including rocket mice, VR, outdoor learning minibeast hunting, floating & sinking etc. They also shared what they have been learning within science, in their school.

The children had great fun attending this celebration event and they made us all very proud, being excellent representatives for our school. They proudly spoke to governors, our Enthuse coach and various staff members. Well done St George's!

Year 4 Trip to Liverpool, by Miss Berry

Date: 20th Jun 2022 @ 12:36pm

Recently, the year 4s had a wonderful time visiting the Anglican and Metropolitan cathedrals in Liverpool for their RE unit on Christianity and the Church.

Earlier in the day, they visited St Hillary's church in Wallasey, so they were able to make comparisons between a church and a cathedral and speak to volunteers and tour guides about the Christian community.

The children were in awe of the beautiful stained glass windows in the Anglican Cathedral and amazed by the incredible crown at the centre of the Metropolitan Cathedral.

The children's incredible behaviour was commented on by several members of the public. Well done year 4!

Everyone had a wonderful time and learnt so much.

Year 1 Trip to Thurstaston, by Mrs Stewart

Date: 20th Jun 2022 @ 8:38am

The children in year 1 had a wonderful time at Thurstaston on Thursday. We were very lucky with the beautiful weather too!

The children took part in several activities across different curriculum areas whilst on site.

For Science, the children hunted for lots of signs of Summer as part of our ongoing work on Seasons.

The children also practised some skills for sports day with an egg and spoon race and learning how to skip at speed.

We are also looking at landscapes in art and what a beautiful landscape to sketch!

Our main aim for the trip was to observe the different physcial features in Thurstaston compared to our village location. The children were in awe of the features they discovered.

We also must mention the exceptional behaviour of all children whilst on the trip, the staff tea

m were so proud of them. Also, a really big thank you to our wonderful parent helpers, we couldn't do our trips without you! Thank you for giving up your time.

The year 6 choir sang as Will's family joined us to mark the opening of the garden - a tranquil and peaceful spot.
