Year 4 Coding, by Miss Berry

Date: 29th Nov 2021 @ 1:53pm

Year 4 have displayed their coding skills today by using the Scratch programme to animate their names and create an underwater game!

They used loops to enable their sprites to appear and disappear, change colour, rotate and move around their background. They were also able to add sound effects to make an interactive 'Whack-a-Mole' style game.

We look forward to seeing what they are able to create next!

Date: 28th Nov 2021 @ 11:06pm

Our Year 2 Choir have worked extremely hard over the past 6 weeks learning 4 Christmas songs and today they got their chance to shine on stage at the St. Hilary's Christingle service. It was wonderful to see so many of our St. George's families coming together and celebrating the beginning of advent whilst watching their children performing so brilliantly. Christmas has officially started!

No Pen Day - Year 1 and 2, by Mrs Horton

Date: 25th Nov 2021 @ 2:08pm

On Wednesday we took part in 'No Pen Day Wednesday'. We used this day to launch the Oracy project that we are taking part in with Voice21 and 14 other Wirral Schools. We started the day with an assembly with Mrs Horton. We played 'Which Emotion?' In this game you have to change the tone of your voice, and use gestures, to demonstrate the emotion that you are feeling when you say a sentence out loud. This helps us to see the importance of our body language and expression when we are speaking.

In our classes, we took part in lots of oracy activities. Even though we did not write anything all day, we still learnt lots. Year 1 used debating skills to discuss whether old toys or new toys were the best. They also used the VR sets and were able to use their oracy skills to describe the old toys that they could see. In year 2 they used green screen to create a film about climate change. They used excellent oracy skills to speak clearly using expression and hand gestures. These films have gone off to be edited but will be showing soon on SeeSaw.

No Pens Wednesday Class 4B, by Mrs Saunders

Date: 24th Nov 2021 @ 5:23pm

Today has been full of fabulous learning tasks but we have not written a single word in any of our books!
We started by sharing and discussing our AR books then we had to tell somebody else about that book. We had a great ' walk and talk' too.
After that, we created a Conscience Alley to tell Leo, the main character from our class shared text what he should do. Does he follow the family motto to protect all mythical creatures? Does he follow his dream to be a hero by following his quest from the goddess Athena?
We also explored electrical appliances and sorted them into groups. Played maths games and sang songs for our up coming performance.  Great work 4B. Well done!

4A No Pen Day, by Mrs Palmi

Date: 24th Nov 2021 @ 5:18pm

We had a fantastic day today using our oracy skills!

Take a look at our pictures below.

We started the day by investigating conductors and insulators in an electrical circuit. We used the Cognitive strand of the oracy framework to reason ideas and summarise our findings. It was very exciting when we used the energy stick to show that a circuit needs to be complete.

After break we had fun playing times table games. We thought about how we used the Social and Emotional strand of the oracy framework to help us to be a good listener and take turns.

In the afternoon we focussed on the Physical strand to act out a scene from our English text and perform it to the class.

What a fun day!

No Pen Wednesday, by Miss Berry

Date: 24th Nov 2021 @ 4:59pm

Today was 'No Pen  Wednesday' at St George's where the children participated in lessons with a focus on oracy, and absolutely no writing!

The children worked in groups to act out scenes from the mythical book we are reading in literacy, presented book reviews, competed in TTRockstars and Spelling Shed battles and explored circuits in science all using just their oracy skills.

Well done Year 4!

A Taste of Greece, by Miss Berry

Date: 19th Nov 2021 @ 10:42am

For their D.T project this term Year 4 will be designing a healthy Greek dish and what better way to learn about Greek food than to try it.

The children sampled pitta bread, olives, hummus, tzatziki and feta cheese and as you can see there were some very mixed reviews!

We were so impressed with the children's eagerness to try unfamiliar food and there also were lots of new favourites for them!

Yiamas!

Year 4's Wonderful Scientific Models, by Miss Mulheirn

Date: 17th Nov 2021 @ 7:13pm

Over the holiday, we set all of Year 4 a challenge to create a scientific model related to the topic of human nutrition, and to take their learning further. We asked them to be as creative as they could be, and I am sure you will agree that they rose to the challenge!

Please check out their wonderful models to learn more about the digestive system and teeth :)

Tiny Forest - Eco Warriors, by Miss Berry

Date: 17th Nov 2021 @ 3:00pm

Today, some of our Eco Warriors got the opportunity to work as part of a country wide scheme to create green spaces within urban areas.

The scheme is run by Earth Watch Europe, and the Delph site in Liscard is one of many sites across the UK being developed into a tiny forest.

A tiny forest is a dense fast-growing native woodland of approximately 600 trees in a tennis court sized area.

Tiny forests bring all the benefits of a normal forest – reconnecting people with nature, helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change, as well as providing nature-rich habitat patches to support urban wildlife – right into the heart of our cities and urban spaces.

We had great fun supporting the biologists and helping to plant trees. We can't wait to see how much they have grown by summer and discover what wildlife they will support.

TRFC Winners Nov 2021.jpg

Our Year 6 football team were successful in the final round of the TRFC competition on Thursday.  We will now go on to represent Tranmere Rovers in the Northern Regional Final held at Salford City in March 2022, where we will play for a place at Wembley.  They were fantastic ambassadors for our school today with their skill and sportsmanship.

Tranmere rovers news report stated:

George’s Primary School have won the opportunity to represent Tranmere Rovers at the EFL Kids Cup Northern Regional Final.

The yearly event has taken place over the last three weeks with over 31 schools entering.

Split over two rounds the schools competed for one of the six places in the final where they would compete for a place in the next round to represent Tranmere Rovers.

St John’s, Great Meols, West Kirby, Birkenhead Prep, Liscard and St George’s Primary Schools all competed in the final that saw plenty of goals being scored in what was an exciting final round.

The final between St George’s and Liscard was of excellent quality and the two schools fought hard for the win with St George’s nudging their way through with a brilliant goal from a free kick just outside the box.

Speaking to a pupil from St George’s they said:

“We started off playing a few games in the first round and smashed it and then we came here to the final which was more difficult and we were a little bit nervous but we kept our heads up and won.

We are excited to go and represent Tranmere Rovers in the next round, we know everyone in the school will be excited and happy for us but at the same time we will be quite nervous as it’s a big deal.”

Speaking about the competition, Shirley Waring, Tranmere Rovers in the Community competition organiser said:

“There was plenty of excellent football on display throughout the whole tournament especially in the final which turned out to be a local derby between the two schools from Wallasey.

Well done to all the teams involved and good luck to St George’s in the next round”

Tranmere’s media team attended the competition and have shared some brilliant media content.

COP26 in Year 4, by Miss Hughes

Date: 12th Nov 2021 @ 2:29pm

During November, we have been learning about the impact on climate change and how we can all work together towards an achievable goal and make a difference.
We have learnt about the impact of plastics in our oceans, air pollution from our cars, and how we can be greener and more sustainable.

After realising how many vehicles pass by our school every day, we wanted to spread awareness about air pollution around our school. With the help of stop motion videoes, we wanted to show the impact of these CO2 emissions.

Each child made a pledge to reduce climate change and wrote their unique promise on a leaf. We hope to inspire you with the promises made.

Paying Respect at the RAFA War Memorial, by Mr Cassidy

Date: 12th Nov 2021 @ 6:16am

13 of our Year 6 pupils, Mr Cassidy and Mrs Roberts joined 20 local veterans from the 3 services (army, navy and RAF), their families, local councillors and the Reverend Ian Ward yesterday at the RAFA Club in Wallasey village for a service to commemorate remembrance day.   The 3 services, school and council all laid a wreath to mark their respects.  Children sang and read prayers.

It was a very poignant service, especially because it also marked 100 years of the Royal British Legion.. Our children ensured that their generation will never forget the sacrifices made by past generations an effort that was very much valued by everybody present.

Storytelling success for Matlida, by Mrs Walters

Date: 9th Nov 2021 @ 1:26pm

Well done to one of our year 3 pupils who took part in an exciting online project and ended up reading out her own work at a Storytelling Showcase!

Matilda attended a 90 minute Zoom session every week as part of a Wirral Libraries creative writing project for children aged 7 to 11.

The theme was all about climate change and children were invited to join the Zoom based courses with author Charlie Lea, who guided them on how to write powerful and persuasive stories of their own.

Matlida was then invited to attend a Climate Champions Storytelling Showcase at the Liverpool Central Library where she read out her own story.

We are all so proud of Matilda who did an amazing job!
