Food and Catering @ St George's

Our two kitchens are run by Jenny Price (Catering & Hospitality Manager) and a team of qualified staff.  The school is supported by professional catering consultants who check our meals meet the national school food standards for nutritional value and quality.

Children in Foundation 2, Year 1 and Year 2 receive Universal Free School meals and do not need to pay for lunches. For Years 3-6, we charge £2.60 for each school lunch and £1.75 for nursery children who stay with us all day.

This is to cover kitchen and food costs and should be paid in advance on ParentPay ( ParentPay Link ). We do not want debts to mount up, if you are having difficulties paying please contact the school office. If you believe you may be entitled to Free School Meals please visit our free school meals information page.

Eatwell Challenge

We are absolutely focused on ensuring that our school meals are high quality and nutritious.  We promote our 'eatwell challenge' and encourage all children to try a portion of at least one fruit, salad and vegetable daily.  We have found that this has been very successful and developed positive habits and attitudes towards food choices.

Most foods are prepared from scratch and we serve fresh vegetables, fruit and salad daily.  Most days there are over 15 choices of fruit, vegetables and salads.

Allergens and Dietary Needs

We ensure that we carefully manage all allergens. School's policy and risk assessment can be read in our medical care policy page.

If your child has a medically diagnosed allergy we will ask you to complete an online form for us using our Compass App and parent portal.

If your child has any dietary needs or food intolerances these can be sent to our catering manager through the school office or compass app.

Packed Lunches

Packed lunches should also follow school standards.  We encourage healthy packed lunches.

Food In School Day

We serve food throughout the school day and encourage children to eat healthy and stay hydrated.

Please note the following policies that are dictated by school food standards.

  • All children should have their own refillable water bottles.  They can fill these using our water stations and have access to them throughout the day.   Children are not allowed to put juice in bottles.  School food standards state that children can only have 150ml or juice or 330ml if combined with water.

This should be served at lunchtime through school meals or packed lunches.

Milk is maximum of 250mls.  parents can order milk in early years.

  • Free fruit is provided as snacks for children in Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2
  • Children in Years 3 to 6 can bring in a healthy playtime snack.  This should be fruit, low sugar snack.  Crisps or confectionery are not allowed at breaktimes.  In years 5 and 6 we serve homemade low sugar snacks and fresh fruit on Tuesday and Thursday breaktimes.
  • Dragon Club serve a daily snack menu with snacks, fruit and other options.
