Design and Technology - Understanding of the World.

As part of our DT topic we have been exploring vegetables and what makes a nutrious soup. The children voted on key ingredients which we then purchased and prepared in class. The children ensured they had washed their hands and the vegetables, then carefully chopped using a knife into small peices. We cooked the vegetables and blended it all together. The children voted on if they liked the taste or not, we then evaluated it - thinking about what we could add to make it taste even better! Some great ideas were: broccoli, sweetcorn or even chillies for some spice!

"Books for Bedtime" Event

"Being read to provides comfort for children, improving their concentration and focus. Being read to gives children knowledge to understand and talk about the world around them. When children understand what is being read this helps them understand how words, phrases and sentences are put together." Gov.uk Help for Early Years Providers

At St Georges reading is at the heart of our curriculum and all of our children have access to high quality literature. In Foundation 2 we read a class story 3 times a day sitting with our friends and enjoying our teacher using silly voices and lots of expression. We read a decodable book once a day in our phonic sessions and take one home each Friday alongside a story book for our grown ups to read to us. This week we have enjoyed our 'Books for Bedtime' event where we learn all about the importance of reading. We come into school in the evening wearing our pyjamas and get cosy under the twinkling fairy lights. We then enjoy listening to storys with props, puppets and masks. We even have a yummy hot chocolate and biscuit.

Imagine That Trip

"When children begin to understand their personal experiences, through interaction with adults and other children, they begin to make sense of the world" Gov.uk Help for Early Years Providers.

As part of our ongoing commitment to personal experiences at St Georges Foundation 2 embarked on a trip to 'Imagine That' in Liverpool. The children engaged in a wide range of activities, taking on different roles in the role play village, painting fridge magnets in the Art room and creating their own snow and slime in the Science Area. The children had so much fun with their class friends and our parent volunteers!

Spring Term clubs

Our Spring Term clubs are going well, the children are enjoying Investigation club, Bikeability, Dance class and Physical club. In investigation club the children are exploring key topics such as floating and sinking, different materials and changes in matter. Bikeability has covered road safety, how to use a balance bike and really focused on the development of the children's core strength. Dance class has been delivered by Miss Cummings from Y2 - the children have loved learning new moves and expressing emotions through movement. Overall this term we have been focusing on the importance of physical exercise to keep us strong and healthy. This has linked nicely with our healthy eating lessons in school.

Oral Hygiene

29.01.24 Foundation 2 were so lucky to have a special visit from the dentist today. We spoke about the importance of brushing our teeth and keeping our mouths nice and clean. We have even made a dentist station in our role play area!

This short video shows key strategies to support your child with cleaning their teeth: https://www.bbc.co.uk/tiny-happy-people/teddy-teeth-cleaning/zksybqt

If a family has concerns about their child’s oral health, signpost them to their dentist for further assessment and support. Local  NHS dentists can be found on the  NHS  website.

If the child needs urgent dental care, and their dentist does not offer emergency appointments, parents and carers can contact NHS 111.
