This morning, the children of St George's Primary from Early Years to Year 6 were absolutely thrilled to welcome some very special visitors from the RNLI New Brighton! They came to teach us all about staying safe when we're near the sea, whether we're at the beach, on a boat, or even just by the water's edge.
Our RNLI friends shared some super important tips and tricks to help us understand the dangers of the water and how to avoid them. We learned all about:
- Spotting the signs: What do different flags mean on the beach? How can we tell if the tide is coming in or going out?
- The power of the sea: We talked about how strong currents can be and why it's so important to be aware of them.
- Calling for help: The RNLI taught us who to call and what to do if we ever saw someone in trouble in the water. We even learned about the amazing work the lifeguards and lifeboat crews do!
- Wearing a lifejacket: Why is it so important to wear one when you're on a boat, and how do they keep you safe?
The children were full of brilliant questions and really engaged with our visitors. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn vital lessons that could one day save a life.
A huge thank you to the wonderful team from RNLI New Brighton for taking the time to visit us and share their invaluable knowledge. We now feel much more confident and clued-up about staying safe at sea!
Remember, everyone, if you're ever in doubt, stay out! And always tell an adult if you're going near the water.
