Year 6 Dive into Darwin's Dragons!
Something legendary has landed in Year 6! This week, our classrooms were transformed into artist studios as pupils crafted intricate clay dragon eyes to bridge the gap between scientific observation and creative storytelling.
This hands-on project marks a thrilling "hook" into our new learning journey: in English, we are immersing ourselves in the magical historical fiction of Darwin’s Dragons by Lindsay Galvin. Meanwhile, in Science, we’ve begun exploring the fascinating world of Evolution and Inheritance, looking at how creatures adapt to their environments over millions of years.
Children revisited and refined the skills they mastered in the Autumn term. To bring their dragon eyes to life, they expertly applied advanced clay techniques - including scoring for strong joins, as well as precision rolling, cutting, smoothing and using tools to create realistic textures such as scales, fur and feathers. The resulting sculptures are a testament to their growing confidence and attention to detail!
