Year 3 Councillor Paul Martin

Year 3 have been learning how to write persuasive letters as part of their English lessons. After discovering how pollution is affecting our local River Mersey, the children felt passionate about making a difference and decided to put their persuasive writing skills into action.

The children researched the issue carefully and wrote thoughtful letters to Councillor Paul Martin, explaining their concerns and persuading him to take action to help protect the river. They included facts, evidence and powerful arguments to support their views.

Today, we were delighted to welcome Councillor Paul Martin into school. He spoke to the children about his role within Wirral Council and explained how local decisions are made. He also took the time to read some of the letters the children had written.

Councillor Martin was incredibly impressed with the quality of the children's work and praised their efforts to raise awareness of such an important environmental issue. He told the children that they had done an excellent job of persuading him and that he would be taking the facts and information they had shared back to his fellow council members to discuss what action could be taken.

The children were proud to see how their learning could have a real impact on their local community. Well done, Year 3, for using your voices to help protect our environment!
