Grammar School Entrance Exams (11+)

Dear parents and families, this page is designed to give you information and support if your child is considering sitting Wirral's grammar school entrance examination tests (commonly referred to as 11+).    Currently we are planning for the tests to take place as planned in September 2026.  

At the bottom of this page are:

There is no reason for your child to sit the entrance examinations if your first choice is going to be a non-selective school (Mosslands, Weatherhead, St Mary’s, Oldershaw School etc). 

Tuition at St George's

St George's will organise tuition for children every Tuesday afternoon between 3 and 4pm. 

Children must be registered using our 11+ tuition form to participate in this tuition offer.

Children can access the tuition resources on Google Classroom during the term and summer holidays.

Tuition will start on Tuesday 21st April .  Tuition will continue until Tuesday 7th of July.  We will also hold a mock examination for all children in September 2026 (date TBC).

There will be 60 hours of practice material on google classroom including:

  • self-marking practice tests,
  • presentations,
  • online tests
  • video lesson links.

Wirral Grammar School Entrance Examinations (11+)

From 2021, the non catholic grammar schools changed to GL assessments as the test provider (has previously been CEM assessments).  Those schools are:

Wirral Catholic Grammar Schools

Online registration for Wirral's Catholic grammar schools (St Anselm's and Upton Hall) opens on 1st May. To register and to find the most up-to-date information, please use the Wirral Schools Admission Page.

2026 testing and Enrolment Dates

Provisional Dates Are:

  • 1st May - Parents portal to apply for Wirral Admission tests open.
  • 31st May - Deadline for all application for children to complete Wirral grammar School Entrance Examination (11+)
  • Early September (TBC) - Practise Test at St George's
  • SEPTEMBER TBC (could be 14th September) Non-Catholic Wirral selective assessments (11+)
  • 16th SEPTEMBER St Anselm’s assessment date (with special arrangements on 19th September )
  • 19th SEPTEMBER Upton Hall assessment date (with special arrangements on 23rd September)
  • TBC Birkenhead High School Academy music assessments
  • 31 OCTOBER Deadline for preference forms
