Nursery application form

Admissions policy is at the bottom of this page.

We have expanded our popular nursery (Foundation 1) provision so that we can offer parents the government's target of 30 hours of nursery provision a week for eligible families, in the term after their child is 3.

All families can access 15 hours free nursery provision in the term after their child is 3 (more information below).  Most families if they are working will be eligible for 30 funded hours childcare.

To find out if you are eligible visit the government's information page on free childcare.

https://www.gov.uk/check-eligible-free-childcare-if-youre-working

Our nursery is open from:

Morning Session 8.40am to 11.40am

Lunch is 11.30 - 12.30pm (lunch is £2 per day for families accessing the 30 hour a week offer.)

Afternoon Session 12.30pm to 3.10pm

Sessions run for 38 weeks of the year, during term time only.

Families can either access the full day as part of the 30 hour offer if eligible or access the universal 15 hour offer.

Pupils accessing the 15 hours universal funding entitlement will be offered either morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) sessions. Due to existing staffing commitments, it is not possible to combine these sessions to form full-day provision.

Where spaces are available, there may be the option to extend attendance to a full day. This would be charged at a rate of £12 per additional half-day session.

Children accessing the 30 hours extended funding entitlement will be allocated a full-time place, consisting of five full days per week. This arrangement will apply unless the setting has been informed that the funded hours are being shared across multiple childcare providers.

The place will be allocated in full to the child, and any unattended sessions will be treated as absences. Parents are asked to confirm any planned absences in advance, including any regular days when they do not plan to attend, in order to avoid absence call checks.

In order to support families with siblings at St George's, timings of sessions have been organised to mirror the times of the school day.  If accessing the 30 hour offer this actually equates to 33 hours and 45 minutes per week free Foundation One provision and is supplemented by school at no additional cost to parents.  Note that lunch is £2 for families accessing the 30 hours provision.

When Can Children Start?

Children become eligible from the term after their third birthday and are admitted in September, January or April accordingly.

  • Children born between 1 April and 31 August become eligible in September (Autumn Term)
  • Children born between 1 September and 31 December become eligible in January (Spring Term)
  • Children born between 1 January and 31 March become eligible in April (Summer Term)

The entitlement will last until your child is in full-time education.

Please note that we only offer January and April admissions if there is available space.

Funding Arrangements for Nursery Places

The government provides all families with 15 or 30 hours funding for children to attend nursery.  They can start the term after their 3rd birthday.

Information on eligibility for nursery funding can be read online:

https://www.gov.uk/help-with-childcare-costs/free-childcare-and-education-for-2-to-4-year-olds

To find out if you are eligible visit the government's information page on free childcare.

https://www.gov.uk/check-eligible-free-childcare-if-youre-working

Families don't need to claim for the 15 hours funding.  This is a Universal offer.  We will simply register your child.

If eligible for 30 hours funding you will receive an individual code which you must provide to us.

Currently, you must reapply every 3 months to confirm your ongoing eligibility.

Lunch would also be charged at £2 – payable on Compass Wallet.

Please speak to our Deputy Head for EYFS and Key Stage 1, Mrs Binks, or email schooloffice@stgeorges.wirral.sch.uk if you would like to find out more.

How Are Admissions Managed?

Full details are in admissions policy below.  We now offer 'up to 76 full time equivalent places' or 152 15 hour places.  Admissions are prioritised in the following order by age of eligibility per admission intake:

  • Looked After children or children with inclusion needs that could lead to an EHCP are admitted as a priority
  • Any children with siblings at the school are admitted as a priority.
  • Children living in the school's catchment area.  This is detailed on Wirral website:

https://www.wirral.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/school-admissions/school-catchment-area-finder

  • Children whose staff worked at the school and they intend to apply for a Foundation 2 place.  DfE admissions code says this can be applied for staff whose parent has worked at the school for 2 years or more.
  • Children living nearest the school (but outside catchment area)

Over-subscribed available places will be offered on this basis.
