Y5/6 Watercolour Workshop!

Yesterday marked the launch of the first watercolour workshop session in Years 5 & 6!

We were even fortunate enough to be provided with hot chocolate and biscuits by our wonderful catering team!

Parents/carers came in at the end of the school day with their child to learn about and practise different watercolour skills & techniques.

Adults & children were given a watercolour paint palette, an array of different brushes, cartridge paper, masking tape, oil pastels and salt in order to be successful during the session.

We learned how to create tints by experimenting with adding water and white paint. Then, we trialled shades by building on the smallest amount of black paint to our chosen colour. After this, we practised wax resists by using oil pastels underneath a watercolour wash.  Finally, we tried the wet-on-wet technique, then sprinkled salt over the top to create areas of dispersal within the paint.

In our final session next week, we will be using iPads to research famous watercolour artists. We will then build upon knowledge and skills we have practised today, and put them to the test for a final piece! We will choose one of two styles to focus on: abstract or landscape. Watch this space!

A huge thank you to the adults and pupils who came along this evening and produced some amazing pieces of artwork. We cannot wait to see what you produce next week!
