Year 6 Football Success!, by Mr Knowles

Success for our Year 6 football team. 

Our year 6 boys recently took part in a Tranmere Rovers football competition. They played amazingly well and won their group which means they have got into the finals in a couple of weeks! Well Done to the boys and good luck for the finals!

The cast of our year 6 Shakespeare play went to the Floral Pavilion to take place in a workshop and rehearse their performance. They had a great time working with the Shakespeare for Schools team.

6A celebrated National Poetry Day by reading ‘Caged Bird’ by Maya Angelou. We thought about the meanings behind the poem and then recited it in groups.

6D's Slavery Debate, by Miss Newton

Taking on different roles, we debated whether slavery should be abolished. Some of us were debating for slavery to be abolished, in the roles of Harriet Tubman and William Wilberforce, and the rest of us were George V and Slave Masters who wanted slavery to remain as it was.

6A made the most of the autumn sunshine with some outdoor reading at the end of the day. It was just what was needed after an exciting day of art.

6A Expression Art with Phil Disley, by Mrs Taylor

6A participated in an art workshop with Phil Disley this morning. Phil is an award-winning local artist and cartoonist, who has illustrated for The Spectator and The Financial Times. Today, the children thoroughly enjoyed learning how to create different expressions and emotions in portraits. Their finished masterpieces are fantastic!

This week, Year 6 have been lucky enough to experience the artist: Phil Disley. Phil has helped us perfect our portrait sketching and developed our understanding and ability to show expression in our drawings.

We pulled faces at each other to identify how our faces moved for each emotion and expression. Then, we sectioned our faces to ensure we had the correct proportions. Following this, Phil taught us which area to focus on and how to emphasize features to truly demonstrate the expression.

In assembly today, year 3 and 4 were treated to a live performance from our now famous penguins.The children loved hearing about the royal day out and we all felt very proud of them.

Mini Police on patrol, by Mrs Walters

Our Year 5 Mini Police had the opportunity to assist Merseyside Police Travelsafe Team in Operation MOSCA today.

Operation MOSCA aims to educate motorists on the dangers of parking in bus stops and on how this can impact on vulnerable people who use public transport.

The Mini Police traveled around Wirral and identified cars which were parked in bus stops.  Drivers were then given the opportunity to receive an on the spot fine or face the Mini Police Mock Court.

Within the Mock Court were 5 Mini Police, a Travelsafe PCSO, a Magistrate and a member of the Disability Support Network.

The St George's Mini Police were very assertive and enabled the motorists to understand the impact of parking in bus stops.

RRS Sir David Attenborough Naming Ceremony - Penguin Parade, by Miss Cummings

What an amazing day! 27 children from Year 4 had the opportunity to attend the naming ceremony for the RRS Sir David Attenborough and perform in the Penguin Parade. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were in attendance as well as the man himself, David Attenborough. The children performed their penguin dance in the parade and two of our children even got to present flowers to Prince William and Kate. We had a wonderful afternoon and the children should all be really proud of themselves! Look out for us on the news tonight

Our children had a great time today visiting the new RRS Sir David Attenborough and meeting the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

St George's took part in a National Fitness Day with all children taking part in some sort of exercise throughout the day. 

Foundation stage showed their fantastic dance moves by following some Just Dance videos.

Year 1 and 2 showed their resilience in an awesome assault course with Mr Kaitell.

Year 3 and 4 worked extremly hard doing some circuit training activities in the hall.

Year 5 and 6 ran like olympians doing the golden mile.

All of the children had an amazing time and did some brilliant physical activities. Most importantly, they had huge smiles on their faces. Even when they were tired!

3C really enjoyed exploring The Stone Age and were lucky enough to have a visit from a Stone Age warrior and visit Forest School.

3B have had a fantastic day exploring The Stone Age. To start the day, we visited forest school and made spears, shelters, clay pots and cave paintings. We even made flatbread, which was delicious!! This afternoon, we enjoyed a visit from a local archaeologist, Mr Trevor. The children became archaelogists themselves when they looked closely at artefacts from the Stone Age, which allowed them to discover what it was like to live in this period of history. What an exciting day we have had!

3D had an excellent day exploring The Stone Age. To begin, we enjoyed a visit from Mr Trevor, a local archaeologist. We sorted artefacts into chronological order looking closely at the materials they were made from. During the afternoon, we took a trip to forest school and made clay pots, spears and shelters. We even made flatbread which was delicious! What a wonderful day we had!

3A have had a brilliant morning working with a Stone Age warrior. They became archaeologists, looking at artefacts from the Stone Age to answer questions about what life was like in that period of history. 

Our afternoon involved an exciting trip to forest school and round house at top site. We were able to take part in a range of activities to help us understand what it was like to live in the Stone Age including; making flatbread, creating our own fires, building shelters, making Stone Age tools, designing and making Stone Age style pottery and Stone Age painting.

Thank you to foundation for making our play doh so that we could create our own teeth as part of our science topic, Human Digestion. We used mirrors to help us mould and sculpt our teeth and gums. We had lots of scientific messy fun! 

6a and 6b Computing Unplugged, by Mrs Taylor

6a and 6b enjoyed a fun afternoon of unplugged computing today. They recorded information in various ways and then sorted information using a bubble sort. We will look at how computers do this over the next few weeks.

Last week, Year 3 and 4 celebrated Roald Dahl Day. We were joined by author, Tony Higginson, who worked with each class during the afternoon to create their own characters.

Some of our super Tennis stars took part in a competition at Thorndale Tennis Club. They played very well and were commended for their sportsmanship and their efforts. They represented the school impeccably and were a credit to St George's. Well done. Wimbledon next?!

Jai has qualified for British Championships, by Mrs Horton

One of our year 6 children, Jai, has qualified to compete in the Gymnastics British Championships. This is a huge achievement and we are all very proud of him.

Gardening club harvest success!, by Mrs Walters

The year 4 gardening club had a great time today harvesting last year’s fabulous produce and seeing it prepared and cooked in school!

The children collected pears, runner beans and marrows and presented them to Mrs Molyneux in the school kitchen at lower site.

She was able to turn the pears into a very popular crumble as well making a delicious tray bake from the vegetables.

The fruit harvest was so good that all the children in year 3 and 4 will be able to try a pear tomorrow.

6D's Forest School Adventure, by Miss Newton

This afternoon 6D have been using our forest school to classify insects. We used classification keys to identify what insect we foud. We then photographed these to explore further back in class. Here are a few examples of our hard work...
