3D’s Virtual Music Lesson Djembe Drums, by Miss Mulheirn

3D had a wonderful live lesson today with Mr Harper, learning how to play the Djembe drums. They learnt about the different parts of the instrument, such as the head, tension strings, body and sound hole. The children then practised keeping in time with regular beats in counts of four. What an amazing last week of half term! On Tuesday, 3D went to the grotto and met Santa🎅🏻. They really enjoyed their treat of a hot chocolate and gingerbread biscuits. The children have since been very busy making their Christmas cards and photo frames... the classroom is now covered in glitter, they had a lot of fun creating them.

Children at lower site had a wonderful time visiting the grotto and meeting Father Christmas this week.

From Foundation to year 4, pupils spent time chatting to Santa or having a story read to them and all came home with a present.

We must say a huge thank you to everyone who set up the grotto from EYFS teachers to the caretaking team with a special thank you to Mr Hughes for his excellent support.

And of course a big thank you to the man himself, Father Christmas, for taking time out of his very busy schedule to visit St George's.

3B had a wonderful surprise this morning when we visited the Christmas Grotto and met Father Christmas! He had a lovely conversation with the children about all things Christmas and he even read us a lovely Christmas story. We really enjoyed our magical morning!

2C really got in the Christmas spirit today by enjoying some delicious, warm hot chocolate and a gingerbread man in our outdoor Christmas grotto.  The wind and the rain did not stop us enjoying listening to Christmas stories, marvelling at the Christmas decorations and sharing in the magic of Christmas.  Here is a snapshot of our session.

Congratulations to the winner and runners up in Wallasey Village People's Penguin Trail.

The trail featured penguins with different coloured hats and scarves in the windows of local businesses. We had over 80 entries and the winners were picked last week. 

Well done to Joshua, Isla and Jacob who received fabulous chocolate and sweet hampers!

We had some fabulous festive hair in school today making it very hard to pick winners.

At lower site the winners were Jessica, Carter, Phoebe, Daisy and Layla who all received a stationery set from Mr Cassidy. We loved seeing everyone's Christmassy hair, bands and hats.

3D have loved learning all about colour mixing and mark making over the last couple of weeks. They have studied the artwork of Mark Rothko and Jules McKeown. Mark Rothko is famous for his colour field paintings and use of rectangular shapes. They then compared Rothko's artistic style to artwork made by Jules McKeown, who is a textile and print making lecturer from Leeds. Here are our final designs. We hope you love them as much as we loved making them!

This week Year3 have been very excited to discover they have their very own little pop star amongst them. Eliza, from 3C, has written their very own Christmas song along with a music video to go with it. Eliza decided to write this song to not only spread a little bit of Christmas cheer, but to also raise money for Chester Zoo who have felt the impact of the recent pandemic. Well done Eliza, we are all extremely proud of you!

Art Week in Year 3, by Mrs Kisby

This week 3A and 3D have been taking part in an art project inspired by Mark Rothko and Jules McKeown. They have learnt how to mix colours using primary, secondary and tertiary colours as well as use a range of paint brushes to make different marks. As you can see they have produced some fantastic art. We are looking forward to seeing the end pieces next week.

Year 3 had a wonderful afternoon celebrating children’s birthdays from September, October and November. We understand children are unable to celebrate their birthdays as they usually would at the moment, so we decided to have a little celebration in school. 2C Minibeast Hunt!, by Mrs Malloy

This afternoon we had a wonderful time exploring the microhabitats in the Centenary Garden looking for mini beasts.  We found spiders, woodlice, crane flies, ants, worms and even centipedes.  Who knew there were so many mini beasts living in our school grounds!  Tomorrow, we will plot a bar chart showing how many of each mini beasts we found.  Great teamwork 2C and you were all so considerate to our surrounding wildlife.

3D - Colour Mixing Artwork, by Miss Mulheirn

Today, 3D recreated artwork in the style of Mark Rothko. They studied his past, his colour field paintings and the emotions and thoughts they provoked. The children mixed their own secondary and tertiary colours and then used a range of painting tools to apply the paint to the page. Their aim was to create floating rectangular shapes with blurred edges, using contrasting or complementary colours. Didn’t they do an amazing job?

A busy week in 3D!, by Miss Mulheirn

3D have had a wonderful week and have worked extremely hard! On Monday, they took part in Antibullying Week and were invited to come to school wearing odd socks, symbolising their differences which make them special. Later in the week, the pupils carried out a scientific investigation focusing on changing the size of shadows. This was planned by the pupils in their pairs and they were brilliant at working scientifically. Today, the children made colour wheels by mixing their own secondary and tertiary colours using the primary colours. What a wonderful week!
