Anti Bullying Week 3A, by Mrs Kisby

Date: 20th Nov 2020 @ 4:20pm

3A have had a busy week this week with our focus being on Anti Bullying week. The children looked at how they were all unique but how they could stand together to unite against bullying. They rocked out to the Odd Socks band, made puzzle pieces to celebrate their differences and then finished off the week by signing the anti-bullying pledge and created their own odd socks 🧦.

In English we have introduced our new text, Fox 🦊 and the children took part in drama activities to help them understand the characters dilemmas.

We have used google classroom to research and use historical evidence to find about how houses changed during from the Stone Age through to the Iron Age.

A great week of learning. well done 3A, I go home one very proud teacher.

Year 3 - Personal Finance

The Year 3 children loved their personal finance lesson this week! Personal finance education is new to our curriculum this year and we are really excited to help our pupils become money savvy. This week's lesson was about the different ways to pay for things, such as cash, debit cards, credit cards, internet banking and cheques.

The pupils have been researching the various payment types and identifying their advantages and disadvantages. Over the next few days, the children are going to become bankers and will try to sell a particular payment type to their customers.

Watch this space!

3C become archaeologists, by Miss Cummings

Date: 12th Nov 2020 @ 4:06pm

3C had a very exciting History lesson today using their historical investigation skills to determine what food was like in the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. They completed this by dissecting historical poo (thankfully not real) and deciding which items of food would have been eaten in which period of time. What a fun but slightly smelly lesson we had!

Year 3 - Figure Me Out!

As part of Maths Week England, the children have been creating exciting, unique and challenging calculations that give answers to questions about themselves! They have done a brilliant job at applying all of the mathematical concepts they have learnt so far in Year 3.

They will use this information to create a 'Figure Me Out' poster on Friday.

Here are a few examples of questions the children have been answering through maths!

What is my shoe size?

How old am I?

How many children are in my class?

We can't wait to share the finished posters with you all at the end of the week!

Year 3 Homework, by Miss Mulheirn

Date: 24th Sep 2020 @ 10:06am

Dear Parents/Carers,

We wanted to clarify a few things regarding the new homework system. All homework tasks will be set on Google Classroom. This enables children, parents and teachers to share comments about the tasks. We are aiming to minimise movement of belongings between home and school as much as possible. Therefore, both the spelling and maths books will stay at home. We will ask for these to be brought in once every half term and we will communicate this nearer the time.

We would like children to complete:

Maths - An activity from their maths homework book will be set weekly. The activity will be put on Google Classroom and ideas of how to extend and support will be on there too. Children can use their maths homework jotters to record, and we ask parents to initial and date the task once completed. There is also space at the back of the booklet for weekly comments. TTRockstars is available for the children to use at their leisure.

Reading - The children will bring home a reading book on a Friday and need to return it again on a Monday along with their yellow reading log. They record in their reading log what they have read - they do not need to log on to Accelerated Reader at home.

Spelling - The weekly spellings will be set on Spelling Shed. The children can practise their spellings on Spelling Shed, as well as choosing one activity from the spelling menu to complete in their orange books.

Any other apps or websites the children have access at school can be used as often as they choose.

We have sent step-by-step guides on how to use Google Classroom and Spelling Shed via email. The guide is also attached as a document at the bottom of this post. Please do let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for your continued support,

The Year 3 Team
