Help for Heroes Success, by Mrs Walters

Thank you to everyone who sponsored our children for their Help For Heroes/Saxon Roundhouse fundraiser yesterday.

The children had a brilliant time tackling our obstacle courses at both sites. If you could send any sponsor money in by 8th June we would be very grateful.

We have had great fun researching French artists using QR codes, making mood boards and having a go at recreating some masterpieces. We cannot wait to see the finished pieces!

A huge well done to one of our amazing year 6 pupils who raised a staggering £756.00 for Cancer charities by abseiling down the Leasowe Lighthouse.

Mini Police Poppy planting, by Mrs Walters

Our fabulous mini police took part in a poppy planting event at Merseyside Police HQ to remember the officers who died in the First World War.

The event was planned to commemorate the Centenary by breathing new life into the boundary of Police HQ at Canning Place with 25,000 poppies planted by local school children.

Mini Police Thank You, by Mrs Walters

Our mini police were very pleased to receive a thank you letter from the police today regarding their hard work before Easter.

The children and the police took part in a campaign looking at parking and speeding around both sites. Parents and local residents were very supportive of the initiative and we hope to run it again.

6B Attendance Party, by Mrs Taylor

6B thoroughly enjoyed their attendance party today. They made fruit kebabs dipped in chocolate, drank milkshake, had a visit from the Easter Bunny and played some outdoor games. 

Author visit and book signing, by Mrs Walters

We had a very successful visit from author Josh Lacey today. He spoke at several assemblies and did some wonderful workshops for our year 3 children.

The children loved his Dragon stories and the book sale and signing after school were a great success. We do have a few more books in school if anyone would like to buy a copy before the Easter holidays. 

Science Fair, by Mrs Walters

Year 5 and 6 parents, careers and grandparents were treated to a Science Fair at upper site today. The parents were invited in to see the wide variety of experiments the pupils have been involved with this term.

These ranged from finding out why jelly won't set with pineapple in to experiments with teabags and toothpaste and bridge building.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who came along.

Mini police parking operation, by Mrs Walters

The mini police had a great afternoon today with local police officers carrying out a parking operation outside upper site.

Some of the children were able to use the police speed gun to check up on passing drivers while others were part of a mini police court speaking to drivers who may have been driving or parking dangerously, including one driver who was speeding at over 40 miles an hour.

All the children were able to sit in the police van and spent time asking the officers different questions.

Several parents commented that it was good to see a police presence and hoped the children would make a difference. They will be holding another parking operation next week at lower site.

Gymnastics Easter Egg Hunt, by Mrs Walters

New Brighton Gymnastics Club will be holding an easter Egg Hunt and Fun Day to fundraise for the Junior World Championships in America.

Several St George's pupils have made it to the championships and the club would love to see as many pupils at the fun day as possible.

Coffee Morning, by Mrs Walters

We will be holding a coffee morning at school for any parents who would like to come and chat with our school linked CAMHS (Child and Adolescence Mental Health Service) workers. 

The coffee morning will be held on Tuesday 6th March from 9am to 10am in our Foundation Building. 

World Book Day at Top Site, by Mrs Taylor

A huge well done to all children for dressing up for World Book Day 2018. We have seen everybody from Harry Potter to a Dalek. The pictures show just how much fun we have had today.

Jon Mayhew Visit, by Mrs Taylor

Year 5 and 6 enjoyed an assembly this morning with Jon Mayhew. We loved hearing about Jon's journey into writing and look forward to purchasing his books after school today. If your child has forgotten their money today but would like to purchase one of Jon's books, they can place an order at the office.

Year 5/6 Police Band Visit, by Mrs Taylor

Year 5 and 6 had a wonderful time listening to the Police Band this afternoon. They played a huge range of songs from Disney, Smurfs and The Lord of the Dance. Thank you to everyone involved.

Year 6 girls' football, by Mrs Walters

Well done to our year 6 girls' football team who made it through to the final six schools in the Tranmere Girls' Tournament.

The tournament comprised of 24 schools and although our team didn't make it through to the final they were a credit to the school with their team work and excellent behaviour.

A huge thank you to Mr Bruce, who visited us today to talk about the history of Wallasey. We had great fun looking at old registers from Wallasey Grammar School and paintings of old buildings in Wallasey. It was interesting to see what St George's Road and Claremount Road looked like 100 years ago.

Football success for year 6 girls!, by Mrs Walters

Congratulations to our fabulous year 6 girls football team who made it through to the next round of the Tranmere Girls’ Tournament this week.

The team played three games at Woodchurch High School on Tuesday beating Rock Ferry Primary and Our Lady of Pity 1-0 and drawing against Bidston Primary. 

They will now go through to the next round at Woodchurch High next week. Good luck girls!

Children's Mental Health Week , by Pickering

6E raised funds for Children's Mental Health charity Place2Be at uppersite all week, From donations on the gate, a sponsored spelling bee and a Bring in & Buy sale. The children aimed to raise £95 which would provide Place2Be's whole school service for one child for a full year. With their hardwork and determination combined with the genorisity of the children and their families, 6E raised over £215. St George's was one of the only schools on the Wirral celebrating Children's Mental Health Week, proving once again that St George's really is the "Place to BE!" 

One in ten children aged between 5 and 16 years (three in every classroom) has a mental health problem, and many continue to have these problems into adulthood

We've had a fantastic morning in Year 6 with professional music teachers. We practised breathing exercises,  a welcome song and a song from Pirates of Penzance.

6B have been developing their self-awareness this afternoon. Children completed an infinite loop challenge, adapting their behaviour to suit the challenge.

Swimming success!, by Mrs Walters

Congratulations to our fantastic year 5 and 6 children who took part in a schools swimming gala today and came first!

All the children brought home medals with many of them coming 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their indvidual heats. Lloyd also gained a personal best in the boys freestyle.

St George's pupils were competing against five other local schools at Guinea Gap Baths.
