Children at St George’s made history today when they took part in a very special time capsule burial.

The time capsule, which included pieces of work and photographs from four Wallasey schools, was buried in the memorial garden (formerly the rose garden) in Vale Park, New Brighton.

Members of St George’s eco council in year 6 joined pupils from Greenleas, SS Peter and Paul’s and New Brighton Primaries for the event on Wednesday.

The capsule will be dug up in 50 years time and we hope some of our children will be there to see it opened!

St George's Day Final Arrangements, by Mrs Walters

Date: 17th Apr 2019 @ 3:44pm

Plans for St George’s Day have now been finalised and we hope as many families and friends as possible will join us to celebrate with our parade and field event.

Children are invited to wear red and white for the day and lower site pupils will be walking to upper site before lunch to enjoy a whole school picnic.

This will be provided by school and will include a sandwich, sausage roll, biscuit and drink. If your child would prefer their own packed lunch you are welcome to provide it but please remember no nut products or sweets.

At 1.30pm the children will leave upper site and parade down Sandy Lane and along St George’s Road with their flags, shields and other accessories. At Mayfield Road years 5 and 6 will turn left and head back to upper site while F2 to year 4 continue onto lower site.

School will close early on that day, at 2.30pm, to allow families to go to upper site for a celebration event. The event will finish by 6pm.  We plan on having live music, food, a drinks tent, games, bouncy castles etc.  There will be some charges for games and refreshments.

Dragon Club will operate as normal on this day. We hope to see as many people as possible lining the parade route and joining us at upper site from 2.30pm.

Lyrics for the St George's Day song , by Pickering

Date: 16th Apr 2019 @ 3:09pm

There was a brave knight long ago,
Long ago, Long ago.
There was a brave knight long ago,
Long ago.

There was a dragon in his cave,
In his cave, in his cave.
There was a dragon in his cave,
Long ago.

St. George went riding on his horse,
On his horse, on his horse.
St. George went riding on his horse
To the cave.

The dragon roared and breathed out fire,
Breathed out fire, breathed out fire.
The dragon roared and breathed out fire,
At St. George.

St. George did stab him with his sword
In his heart, in his heart.
St. George did stab him with his sword,
Long ago.

.
George set the princess free at last,
Free at last, free at last,
George set the princess free at last,
Free at last.

So, everybody’s happy now,
Happy now, happy now,
So, everybody’s happy now,
Long ago.

British Science Week - 2019, by Miss Gough-Hughes

Date: 15th Mar 2019 @ 2:33pm

British Science Week

This week, St George's have celebrated British Science Week 2019. In doing so, children throughout the school have taken part in various science activities and collaborated with different year groups. Year 1 were very lucky to pair up with Year 6 and so each Year 1 class had 15 Year 6 children come to their class on Thursday afternoon to join them in completing experiements. Each class completed two out of the four following experiements. Slippery slopes - children had to pour different liquids down a slope to test how fast or slow each liquid moved. Floating journey - children had to choose suitable materials to make a boat which would float and last in water. Tunnel engineers - children had to experiment with different materials to make a tunnel in the sand. Make it fly - children had to make helicopters, gliders and planes out of paper and see how far they could make each one fly. All children had a fantastic afternoon with the Year 6 children and said how much they enjoyed the experience. A big thank you to the Year 6 children for coming down to lower site to work with us in Year 1. The children were an excellent support for the younger children and showed excellent respect. Well done Year 1 for your fantastic science knowledge and working so hard.
